party scene rough draft

scene inspiration

We hope to edit our scene similar to the way this is edited, quick shots synchronised with the beat of the music, occasional slow motion to simulate the feeling of being intoxicated. We will have to use small clips to maintain the illusion of a real party instead of only 15 people.

Filming Day 1

The second scene of our production involves a party scene, located in a club of some sort. In order to achieve this, we created an event on Facebook, inviting around 30 people to our fake party. Unfortunately only about 15 showed up. In order to create a sense of reality, we insisted that our party members danced close to one another as we filmed lots of close ups and several long shots to make it seem as though the room is much more full then it was. The key aim in shooting this scene was to make the viewer feel as part of the scene. This was made possible with the hand held camera which we used as we walked amongst the dancers and filmed extreme close ups. We mainly used red and blue party lights, but used a strobe to create a sense of disorientation making the atmosphere more chaotic. Key lights were used when filming main characters in order to separate them from the background party people.

PLANNING FILMING DAY 2

For our second day of filming we need to be on a beach on the thames. I looked at high and low tide time to help us work out when would be the best time to do it. We found that in order to be able to use the most of the exposed beach, we would have to be there at around 3am or 4pm, in February.  We wanted to film when the sun was either rising or setting to achieve the reflection across the water and to minimise shadow under the bridge. At the calendar dates around February 15th, we knew that we would have to be there for filming from 4pm onwards, as there would be no light at 3am.

For the scene at night, we are looking at filming at an alleyway near Wandsworth common station, as we thought that the available light and the effect of the high walls would look good.

Due to my media partner leaving I have been forced to abandon this project and join another group. Unfortunately this means my production will not be filmed and this work is meaningless. My new group  has already started planing their production and we have already done a day of filming. Look to http://alleynsmedia-johnson.blogspot.co.uk or http://alleynsmedia-mollyjohnson.blogspot.co.uk for information on the project.

Light work

In order to understand better the use of lights in filming, myself and 3 other media students created a small production involving a dark room using our own lighting.. By doing this we encountered several issues which we understood could potentially pose issues during our real production on location such as the battery life of the camera. After a short amount of time, approximately 30 minutes, the batteries for the camera died, which helped us understand the importance of fully charging them before taking them on location. If they were to die on location before we finished shooting, we would be forced finish early, so we will remember to always be aware of the short battery life. We also learned the importance of the backlight. This secondary light to the main light provides depth to the shot which is vital in achieving a good picture. Lights are essential when filming indoors. The use of colour lights are also effective in setting the mood of the production.
